Photo of Chinook, Montana cowboy appears in Montana Magazine

My photograph of a cowboy roping cattle on a ranch near Cleveland, Montana appears in Montana Magazine's inaugural edition of what they call Pure Montana. It is a new feature designed to showcase photographs that evoke the history, culture and spirit of Montana, including that which is fast-disappearing.

The first Montana photograph they selected was this photo of Gary Hanks of Chinook, Montana roping calves in the falling snow while riding his horse named Dollar on the Kellam Ranch. It was one of my early favorite cowboy photos and it appears in the January 2018 issue of Montana Magazine, which is available on newsstands today. I love the action and the grit of the photo. And Gary, who I know, is quintessential cowboy and quintessential Montana. I'm so glad they selected this photo.

Over the next few issues Montana Magazine is likely to select more of my Montana photos for this feature. So if you are a fan of my Montana photography, please be sure to subscribe to Montana Magazine today.
